Jazz
When Jazz hit Paris in the early 1920s it did not take long for it to reach Czechoslovakia. By the mid 20s, Ervin Schulhoff had composed a series of piano works inspired by Jazz, which became the dominant popular music here as across Europe. Tolerated in the post-war years by the Communist regime (at the same time suppressing Rock Music), since the division of the Czech Republic and Slovakia Jazz musicians have reinvented themselves, creating new and progressive sounds, whilst not forgetting the roots of their music.
