Jitka Hosprova

Jitka Hosprova became inspired to  take up the viola when she attended a concert given by Jan Matlik, professor at Plzen Conservatory.  Her childhood was spent in the small town of Manetin, in the Plzen region.  After finishing her studies at Plzen Conservatory, Jitka Hosprova went on to study at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.

“When I was a child neither of my parents forced me to study music, it was simply one of my many activities.

"I came upon the viola at the right time and in the right place.  Even though the instrument is slightly larger than the violin and the hand is stretched more during playing, one has to approach the viola like one would the violin.

"I feel an affinity with the music of my contemporaries.  It would be strange if we as performers stayed only with Stamic, Haydn or Mozart.  The opportunity to sense the essence of the piece along with the living composer is thrilling for me.”
